    Presentation Tonight

    Good Morning NCLA Families,


    Just a reminder - our Presentation is tonight!  5.30pm at the Harness Club off Jackson St, Broadmeadow.

    On Griffiths Rd, heading from Newcastle turn Left at lights where Freddys Fishing is, then take the 2nd right (which is Jackson st). Drive straight and when the road veers to the right, go straight into the driveway in front of you and follow around to parking area.


    The Presentation is always a great night - a chance to celebrate the hard work of all our Athletes and Parents throughout the season.

    Sausage sizzle, drinks, fruit platter and yogurt bar all provided.  Come along and get your trophies and enjoy something to eat.  Please wear uniforms.

    Hi everyone,

      Well, we've come to the end of another season, and as Janet has already said numerous times, we apologise for how disrupted this year has been.  We'd really like to to thank you all for your patience and tolerance while we tried to make the best of the long list of things that tried to de-rail us along the way - the un-availability of Newcastle Athletics Field, and then the drainage works at Alder park; not to mention the weather this summer, which always seemed to be either too hot or too wet!  So thanks again.


    Now we need to look forward to next year, and plan for a season that promises to be one of our best.   The re-launch of the Newcastle Athletics Field along with the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast should mean a heightened profile for athletics in Newcastle, and hopefully a corresponding increase in numbers for us.  With increased numbers comes the need to be more organised as a club.  There are many jobs that need to be done week-to-week, and at certain points throughout season, to ensure a smooth running club and a great experience for the kids:  setting up and packing away equipment, guidance and coaching in the various events, compiling and entering results, running the canteen, coordinating participation in zone and regional carnivals, organising the Christmas party and presentation night etc, etc.


    It's bad timing, but unfortunately all this coincides with us losing many members of the committee for next season: Janet who's been our fantastic president for several years, even though her children are no longer at the club; and Jane, Amanda, Shaun and Kym who after many great years of service to the club and committee, have all decided not to return next year.


    To be honest, without some more help, we're nearly at the point where we'll struggle to run the club at all next season.  As you know, Little Athletics relies on parents and volunteers to succeed, so I'd really like to appeal to all of you that if you feel like you can help Newcastle City Little Athletics to reach it's potential next year, and ensure a fun and rewarding experience for the kids, please come to the AGM which is to be held two nights after the Presentation Night on Wednesday 5th April - 7:00PM at Lowlands Bowling Club in Cooks Hill.  Committee involvement can be as big or as little as you feel comfortable with, but we'd really just like to form a core of parents and helpers who we know we can call on to help out during the season.

    URGENT - No Competition tonight 5/12

    Below is a copy of an email received just now.  Alder Park is closed - so tonights meeting has been CANCELLED.  We will be in touch with everyone to advise what is happening (ie where we will be going to) with our Christmas Party on 12/12.

    We apologise for the late notice and inconvenience but have only been finding out at the last minute ourselves.

    Hi all

    I dropped down to Alder Park this morning undertook an inspection and have finished on the phone with Trent of Turspec.

    The drainage and irrigation lines crossing the running tracks are in poor repair due to athletics (?) activities – which now have significant foot holes in many of the trenches – rendering them dangerous even to people walking their dogs in some locations.  

    The impact of this is not only safety for people using the park – but also additional costs in repair and length of time the field will take to heal.  The drainage and irrigation lines in areas away from the track appear in good condition.

    As raised on Friday, the condition of the park is presenting safety concerns across its length and this will not improve until grass cover is well underway.  It needs time to heal before this can occur.  

    Water gets turned on this week – and this will open up trenches as soil settles around the underground piping – again more to think about.  We will do our best to keep up with backfilling – but as volunteers we cannot be there every morning.

    As much as I would love to say everyone could go about their business unrestricted, this is unfortunately not the case as not only are your members in danger of injury, but so are your clubs in terms of:

    ·         Healing time for the park – grass cannot grow back if soil is being kicked out of the trenches – affecting the rest of your season

    ·         Insurance - all claims will be made directly against the Club permitting activity in the dangerous location. Turspec have informed their insurer of activities on the ground and they have placed an exemption on their policy. 

    ·         Repair costs - New Lambton FC (funder of the entire project) will need to continue paying for the repair costs. However, such costs arising will need be sent onto the relevant group where damage needs to be repaired – as we do not have endless funds for this project.

    All of this in mind and along with the fact that the site is the responsibility of Turspec as the Principal Contractor for the duration of the works (who have workplace health and safety obligations), please note that Alder park will remain closed until the contractor hands the park over at practical completion of the project. After that, ground closure will be based on risk assessment.

    Again, we apologise for the short term inconvenience – but if you could please inform your members of the benefits of this project – that may take some of the sting out their opposition – which is being levelled at the contractors on nearly a daily basis.  

    Lisa at NCC has advised that she can be contacted for sportsground alternatives during the closure.

    URGENT: Track Info

    Hello Everyone

    We received this on Friday (attached).

    A risk assessment is being undertaken on Monday to determine if the ground will be closed.

    I have sent an email to GHD and Council requesting that the long jump, shot put, discus, tiny tots and limited part of the sprint track might be considered safe to use so we can undertake a limited programme.  We will post the result and send emails as soon as we know.

    The Committee is again dismayed that decisions regarding the clubs functioning have been made without consultation with us.  We are endeavouring to deliver a positive programme under very trying circumstances and are hopeful your supportive persistance will continue.  The new year should be less disruptive, and may see us back at the new track before the season's end.

    We hope to offer a 10 visit pass to the new track for casual use through 2017 to aid your child's continuing athletic development.

    Important Track news & Zone Info

    Hello Everyone

    Newcastle Athletics Field is now closed for refurbishment of the track. This is earlier than expected and the Committee had hoped to consult with the parent group on a solution.
    At this stage the plan is to continue Newcastle City Little Athletics at Alder Park, New Lambton.
    This is the ground used by Adamstown New Lambton Little Athletics on a Friday night. They have generously offered us the use of the ground for Monday night with full use of their equipment. They even have a separate area with sprint and circular tracks and long jump pit for Tiny Tots.

    Unfortunately Alder Park is presently also undergoing improvement works so NEXT MONDAY 21ST IS CANCELLED, but competition will commence the following Monday 28th at 5.30 as usual.

    The Committee sincerely apologises for these inconveniences. If anyone has concerns regarding ability to continue attending or any other issues, please feel free to discuss them with Janet or any of the committee members-email us at or speak to us on the Monday evening.We will endeavour to address all concerns and find a solution that is satisfactory to all concerned.


    Zone Entries are due by this Sunday 20th November.

    If you wish your child to compete could you please email Scott Westcott at before Sunday.

    Attached please find the Zone timetable for December Saturday10th and Sunday11th.

    Your child can enter up to four events.

    Please note your childs name, registration number, age and gender group and events they wish to compete in. I suggest choosing the event they love most and choose others on that day.

    Parents are asked to help out for an hour or two on either days.

    We are having a working bee to get field ready for our season which starts next Monday.


    Saturday 8th October, 9am to 12pm

    Come anytime during the time period

    Bring covered shoes and sun protection and work gloves (and whipper snipper if you can)

    Duties:  Clean up around athletics field areas, general scout of the venue for rubbish, mow and clean up hill areas


    We will be providing a Sausage sizzle for hungry volunteers.  Hope to see some of you there!

    New Season Registrations

    Hi Families,

    It's that time of year again.  Registrations for the new season are open.  If you haven't received your log in and want to re-register for the season, please let me know and I can find it for you.  Also age groups 12-17 are receiving dual membership (membership to Athletics NSW as well as Little Athletics NSW and will receive different rego numbers to normal which will be explained further).

    Registration nights are Monday 12th or 19th Sept 5.30pm at the track.  First night of competition is Monday 10th October.

    It is exciting news that the track is being refurbished. Unfortunately at this stage we do not know exactly when this will happen. We plan to commence the season as usual and should competition be disrupted by commencement of works we have a number of options open to us
    which we are happy to decide as a club when this occurs. This may include using the No.1 ground or competing either with or at the ground of other clubs.

    2015-2016 Presentation

    Hello To All Athletes and their Families,

    Get excited presentation night is this coming Monday 4th of April !

    Presentation night will commence at 5:30pm at the Newcastle Harness Racing Club.

    Take the Jackson Street, Broadmeadow entrance. Drive down the long driveway and park in the carpark.

    Proceed towards the track and you will see The Westburn Grant room on your left, this is where our presentation will be. (Please ensure the children stay off the track)

    At Presentation we will be calling for nominations/volunteers to be on the commitee for the 2016-2017 season. Some of the present

    committee are moving on so we are looking for new people to fill the committee.

    The Newcastle Little Athletics Club only meets five or six times a season, to be a committe member you need to have a positive atitude,

    enjoy being part of a great team and most of all love being envolved with development of athletics with children.

    You will definitely not be thrown in at the deep end, all present commitee members will be staying around to ensure an easy transition for the future committee.

    The committe positions are President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Registrar/Data entry, Gear Steward, Uniforms, Starter and Head timekeeper.

    Taking a position on the committee does not mean that you can't be with your child on competition nights, as you will notice all commitee members are helped out

    with the various jobs by all volunteers on Monday nights. Getting in and giving a helping hand makes competition nights run well.

    Our club has grown over the last two years and will continue to grow with the fanatstic news recently that the track is to be upgraded by an $800,000 grant.

    It will certainly be a great year to be involved as a committee member and as an athelete/volunteer/member of Newcastle City Little Athletics.

    Please give becoming a committee member some thought, it is for the benefit of our young atheletes.

    Final Week - varied info

    Also, Hunter Sports Centre, Glendale is holding coaching clinics in the school holidays.  See below for info.


    Registration is open for the Little Athletics NSW coaching clinics to be held at the Hunter Sports Centre, Glendale on Wednesday 13 April, 2016.

    A summary of what we are offering is:

    Juniors (U9-11)

    A 9.00am – 3.00pm program featuring a six event rotation (sprints, hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus), with a maximum of 12 in each group. Thirty-six spots are available. Junior athletes register to stay for the entire program.

    Seniors (U12-17)

    90-minute event-specific coaching clinics held throughout the day in the following timeslots:

    ·         9.30am – 11.00am:          Sprints Clinic

    ·         11.30am – 1.00pm:          Long Jump Clinic & Hurdles Clinic (two separate clinics)  

    ·         1.30pm – 3.00pm.            Javelin Clinic

    Senior athletes can register for one, two or three timeslots and only need to stay for their timeslots. There is  a maximum of 16 places available for the sprints clinic; 8 places are available in each of the other senior clinics .

    All clinics will be open to members and non-members.

    Hi Little Athletics Families,

    Hope you are having a great weekend.  The results for last week are now on the website.  We are still having a problem with the computer system that saves the points tally so below are the top 10 athletes after last weeks results (I can show you the full tally on my laptop if you wish - just let me know).

    Also please be aware that from now on the Grandstand will be off limits on competition nights.  We have had some children climbing on the shelter roof at the back of the grandstand and don't want to see anyone injured so it will be completely off limits on a Monday Night.  Janet will talk about this tomorrow.

    And a reminder - we are having a BBQ after tomorrow nights competition.  $2.50 sausage on a roll, $1 for popper or water, $1.50 fruit salad cup.  All proceeds go towards the presentation and it means you won't have to cook dinner!!!!  Hope to see you all there.

    Results and Points Tally

    Hi Families,

    Hope you are having a great weekend - results for last week are now on the website.  I have also attached a Word document with the Points Tally - we are having technical issues with the actual tally so I have cut and pasted onto Word (if you want to see the proper one, I have a print out).  For those new families who don't know about the Tally, athletes get one point for each event they compete in, one point for matching a PB and two points for beating a PB - the system results are entered into automatically calculates the points.  At the end of the season the top three get an extra trophy.


    Good luck to everyone, we have 6 more competitions left for the season.  We will also be having a fundraising BBQ on Monday 29th Feb after events to raise some money towards the presentation.

    Thanks for an excellent night tonight - hope you all enjoyed the xmas party.  First night back next year is February 1st.

    The results for last week are on our website (sorry for delay, there was a computer glitch and then I had the flu).  Attached to this is also the points tally at the halfway point for the year.  For those new families, every event your child competes in gets a point and every time they beat their own PB they get 2 points.  The top 3 points scorers get a special trophy at the end of the season.

    Raymond terrace Pentathlon

    Raymond Terrace Athletics are holding a Pentathlon next Saturday - 17 October starting at 1.30pm.  

    Attached is an information sheet and entry form for anyone who is interested.

    The form states entries close on Wednesday - they will however accept entries up until Friday.

    Wallsend Field Gala Day

    The season starts on Monday night 5.30pm - looking forward to seeing you all there!


    Attached is a flyer for a Gala Day being held through Wallsend Little Athletics on Sunday 25th October.  Anyone who is interested should register and pay for their child/ren (there is information on payment details $10 at bottom of the first page).  Any questions, please ask and I will endeavour to find out what I can.

    Presentation & AGM

    In this issue....

    Hello All Athletes, Parents and Carers

    The season is very quickly coming to the end. We have only two competition nights left this Monday night the 16th and next week the final night 23rd of March 2015. Parents and carers don't forget to dress ready to participate in the relays on the final night of competeition. This is always a great lot of fun, especially for the athletes.

    The pointscore tally is still extremely close with the top 3 places still unsure. With two weeks left and PB's still possible and likely to happen it will be a well contested finish.

    This year the presentation will take place on Monday the 30th of March at the Newcastle Harness Racing Club in the Parade Ring Room. Entry to the facility is via Jackson street Broadmeadow. If you are unsure of where this is please ask one of the committee members for information. Presentation will commence at 5.30pm and conclude at 7pm with a BBQ. Could you please indicate how many of your family will be attending the presentation for catering purposes to

    The Annual General meeting will be held at Lowlands Bowling Club on th 20th of April commencing at 7pm. We ask that all parents consider attending this meeting as positions need to be filled for the club to continue to operate efficiently and effectively. This year we have had a great wealth of knowledge and participation from the parents attending every week and it is felt by the current committee that this knowledge and participation could lead to a better club for our athletes. The committe only meets about four times throughout the season and is always open to new committee members.

    Finally, the committee would like to express their sincere thanks to all Parents and Carers who have been wonderful helpers throughout the 2014-2015 season. It has certainly been an outstanding group of athletes and families.
